This is an early manuscript of compositions in Chinese, Honchô monzui (E., Choice Pieces by Japanese Poets), compiled by Fujiwara Akihira (989-1066). The colophon reveals that it was copied with marks for reading the Chinese by Shamon Kakugen in 1230 (Kangi 2). The work is considered valuable because the readings in red ink are in the old style (J., kokun), used in the middle ages (J., chûsei) and earlier.
