Seven documents, including one private letter (J.,gonaisho) and two official documents (J.,migyôsho) of Ashikaga Takauji (1305-58), three documents of Ashikaga Yoshiakiara (1330-67), and one private letter of Ashikaga Yoshizumi (1479-1512) have been mounted in album form. Each one is 10 to16 centimeters in height and 12 to17 centimeters in width, and is written on small, cut sheets of decorated paper. They had been sent to lords of famous families from Wakasa Province (part of present-day Fukui Prefecture), who served as retainers of the Ashikaga shoguns. Many documents of this type, written on cut sheets of paper, were issued to shogunal retainers.
