Zhang Ji (1882-1947), also known by the sobriquet (Ch., zi) Puquan, was born in Cang County in Hebei Province, China. He came to Japan in 1899 to study at Waseda University in Tokyo and later traveled frequently to Europe. He edited Minbao (The People's News) in Japan, published Xin shiji (A New Century) in Paris, and was at the center of the Revolutionary Alliance through journalism. After the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, he helped establish the Guomindang (Nationalist Party) and served as a parliamentarian. Zhang later served as the Head of Documents at the Palace Museum in Beijing.
