Overview

Flower Garland Sutra, Vol. 58

Museum No.
BK453

This volume was copied by a young nun known as Shinshō. The nun copied the entire Flower Garland Sutra (set of 80 scrolls) translated by the monk Śikṣānanda (652–710) by herself. As such, it represents an invaluable Nara period (710–794) example of calligraphic traces by a woman.
