This beautiful volume of the Diamond Sutra (Ch., Jingang jing; J., Kongôkyô) with frontispiece intact was printed with large letters in accordion-book format. Each page, folded in two, has sixteen lines with ten characters per line in thick black ink. The bold calligraphic style resembles that of the Tang official, Yan Zhenqing (c. 709-784), known for his innovative calligraphy. The engraved lines of the frontispiece also express the sharp quality similar to that of the lettering that appears in this manuscript. Although its first section is missing and its provenance unknown, this printed manuscript undoubtedly dates to the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127).
