Yang Shoujing (1839-1915) was born in the city of Yidu, Hubei Province. His style name was Xingwu and his sobriquet was Linsu. A scholar of the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and early period of the Republic of China (1911-1949), he was well versed in the studies of cataloguing classical documents and epigraphs. In 1880 (Guangxu 6), as a official member of the minister He Zhangru's delegation, he went to Japan, where he lived for four years and greatly influenced calligraphy in the Meiji (1868-1912) Japan.
