Chen Jiru (1558-1639), whose sobriquet was Zhongchun and pseudonyms, Meigong and Migong, was a native of Songjiang Huating (present-day Songjian in Shanghai) in China. A widely learned person, he never entered government service but valued the elegance and taste of the literati throughout his life, concentrating on reading and writing books. His calligraphic style represents the refined character of literary men during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
