This is a manuscript of a poem, "Drinking Wine," by Chinese poet Tao Yuanming (365-427), copied on silk by Wen Zhengming (1470-1559). The colophon reveals that Zhengming produced this calligraphy in his later years, when he was leading a serene life in his hometown of Suzhou, after having retired from a government post. It is a masterpiece of calligraphy, displaying a mature style that is representative of skillful cursive writing.
