These documents were heirlooms of the Toriiôji family, who is the hereditary family of Kamigamo Shrine, also known as Wakeikazuchi Shrine, in Kyoto. They all concern the manors owned by the shrine. There are twelve documents in all, including two documents from the Heian period (794-1185), six from the Kamakura period (1185-1333), and four from the Nanbokuchô (1333-92) and Muromachi (1392-1573) periods. One of the Heian documents was issued by an official of Suô Province (present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture), bearing the date of the seventh month of 1152 (Ninpei 2).
