The Record of Transmitting the Buddha Dharma (Ch., Fufazang zhuan; J., Fuhôzôden), translated by Jijiaye (n.d.) and Tanyao (n.d.) of the Northern Wei dynasty (386-535)), documents the way Buddhism was passed from teacher to disciple in India as well as the history and origin of Buddhism.
Although the first section is missing, the postscript of this segment indicates that it originally came from a set of the entire Buddhist canon (J., daizôkyô), dated Jiping 1 (1064). Brushed in a bold hand, this scripture appears to have served as a sample for a printed version of this Buddhist scripture from the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127) in China.
