With focus on ceramics, this set was compiled by Ninagawa Noritane who played a pioneering role in surveying and cataloguing ancient art of Japan at the beginning of the Meiji period. Printed with the then brand-new technology of lithography and accompanied by French annotations demonstrates his efforts to introduce Japanese art abroad.
