This is one manuscript from a set of sutras that were dedicated by the shogun Ashikaga Takauji (1305-58) on the twenty-third day of the first month of Bunwa 3 (1354) to appease the souls of those who had died in battles after the Genko Rebellion--such as Emperor Godaigo and Takauji's own parents--as well as to pray for the peace of the country and its people. For the event of copying the sutras, various priests from major temples in Kyoto, Nara, and Kamakura were invited to a memorial service on the twenty-third day of the twelfth month in the same year. There are two types of printed dedicatory inscriptions with five lines, and one type with four lines, both including the donor's name "Takauji.
