The Amida Sutra, also known as the Smaller Pure Land Sutra, is one of the Three Pure Land Sutras, which describes the Pure Land in the western paradise. The paper of this decorative sutra from the early Kamakura period is made of ganpi, with gold columns and sprinkled gold and silver cut foil and dust.
At the end of the scroll is an inscription by Dokaku (1204-50), the sixth son of Emperor Gotoba, which indicates that the sutra was copied by Gotoba himself.
