This fine painting on silk is based on an image from the Imperially Commissioned Illustrations of Agriculture and Sericulture (46 leaves), a wood-block printed and hand-colored album by the artist Jiao Bingzhen (ca. 1680–1720). The album was ordered by Qing Emperor Kangxi (r. 1661–1722) to reflect his prosperous reign.
