This bottle for serving sake (rice wine) is decorated with delicate designs in overglaze enamels of red, blue, green, and gold, a Kyoto ceramic technique started by potter Nonomura Ninsei in the 17th century. The technique became popular again in the 18th century—-this is a particularly outstanding example from that time.
