Museum No.
IK844
市松人形 Image

This Ichimatsu doll was made around 1884 in celebration of the birth of a boy whose father was chief manager for a branch of the Mitsui family of financiers. The name Ichimatsu comes from a particularly attractive Kabuki actor named Sanogawa Ichimatsu (1722 – 1762). Early dolls were sold without clothes, to be dressed by their owners.
