Mahaprajnaparamitopadesa (Ch., Dazhi du lun; J., Daichidoron) is a commentary in one hundred fascicles on the Mahaprajnaparamita sutra (Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra; Ch., Da bore poluomi jing; J., Daihannyaharamittakyô), attributed to Nagarjuna (c. 150-250) and translated from Sanskrit to Chinese by Kumarajiva (334-413). This scripture formerly belonged to Ishiyama-dera, a Shingon temple in Shiga Prefecture, where several dozen scrolls from this commentary have been transmitted. The original set was copied in Harima, and donated by people from various social classes, including the lord of Harima, the mayor, courtiers, priests, and nuns. The calligraphic style is free and expansive.
