The Book of Han, edited by Ban Gu (32–92 CE), is the official history of the 229 years of China’s Western (Former) Han dynasty and contains biographies of famous figures. This Tang dynasty edition is the oldest surviving copy. Its guide marks, added in 948, indicate how to read the Chinese text into Japanese.
