This document gives the procedures for the Nyoirin-ho ritual, a ceremony conducted in front of an image of Nyoirin Kannon to extinguish bad karma. This particular Chinese translation is the work of the Tang dynasty priest Jingangzhi (Skt. Vajrabodhi), though there is also a translation by Bukong (Skt. Amoghavajra). The scroll is missing sections at the beginning, but the relatively large size of the characters and the handsome Japanized hand suggest that it was copied in the mid-Heian period. The method in which the manuscript has been punctuated with red marks indicates a connection with the Tendai sect on Mt. Hiei.
