This jewel-like box was likely made for export: A sticker beneath its lid bears the name of Pierre Saqué, a Parisian collector of Asian art. The pouch’s arabesque textile pattern is accented with a frog on a lotus leaf, representing the netsuke (toggle) on the braided silk drawstring.
