This letter by Date Masamune (1567-1636) is addressed to Doi Toshikatsu (1573-1644), a counselor of the Tokugawa family. In the letter, Masamune tells him how he enjoyed hawking when he was on a vacation approved by Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616) and mentions that he will come to the castle on the next day. Masamune is famous as not only a warrior but also a man of culture who enjoyed performing tea ceremony and composing poems. He had a distinctive style of calligraphy.
