This is an early manuscript of Hyakuei waka (E., Collection of One Hundred Poems) written by Minamoto Mitsuyuki (1163-1244) in 1204 (Genkyû 1). Because Mitsuyuki made and gave his collection, Môkyû waka, to the shogun Minamoto Sanetomo (1192-1219) when he was 13 years old, it is presumed that this collection was also made with similar intentions. The calligraphy is attributed to the renowned poet, Minamoto Tameie, but the handwriting style does not match that of Tameie.
