This calligraphy copybook has a colophon at the end indicating it was written by Akita Tarô Suesane. The name is spelled wrong, however; "Suesane" should have been spelled "Sanesue." The Akita clan were descendents of the Abe clan from Mutsu Province (present-day Aomori Prefecture) and the family used the name "Akita no Tarô" for generations. Sanesue was the feudal lord of Shishido in the province of Hitachi (present-day Ibaraki Prefecture) during the early modern times. A kind of ôraimono ("model letter book"), this work is old-fashioned for calligraphic works during this period; it is, nevertheless, an excellent piece of work.
