The dynamic diagonal split design on this tray, as well as the seasonal flowers—paulownia, clematis, chrysanthemum, etc.—give it a distinctly Japanese flavor. According to an inscription on its storage box, this was a family heirloom of the Yokoyamas, who served as chief retainers to the Kaga domain (present-day Ishikawa prefecture).
