In the Tang dynasty, elite tombs were often filled with sancai earthenware figurines in preparation for the afterlife. This tall, willowy Tang court woman wears a short jacket over a long skirt, a long shawl wrapped around her shoulders. Her hair is gathered in a towering chignon on top of her head.
