This kind of pear shaped bottle (sometimes called a yuhuchun ping), with a flaring mouth, long slender neck, and ovoid body, was used for serving wine. First, the design was first painted in iron brown and dried. Then the bottle received an overall coating of blackish glaze that resisted the brown design.
