This ceramic pillow is of a type that was imported to Japan in various shapes (bean-shaped, rectangular, rectangular with beveled corners, etc.). Most were made in Cizhou kilns of Hebei province. This one was covered in white slip and incised before the clay had dried, then decorated with sancai glazes.
