This kimono is made of fine ramie, a bast fiber similar to flax (linen) or hemp, worn in the hot summer. It is decorated with scenes of Uji, a town southeast of Kyoto. By a river dotted with fireflies, can you pick out the scenes of Uji Bridge, Byōdō-in temple’s Phoenix Hall, tea pickers, and the fan-shaped lawn Ōgi no Shiba?
