This kosode uses the surface-dyeing technique of yūzen, which allows for great freedom of expression. The separate designs on the upper and lower sections are typical of the early 18th century, when the yūzen technique reached its peak. The motifs are enhanced by large characters drawn from a famous classical waka poem.
