Landscape

Museum No.
AK165

Wang Zhideng (1535-1612), whose sobriquet was Bogu, was born in the province of Changzhou (presently Suzhou) in China. He led literary society after Wen Zhengming (1470-1559). Although this work illustrates a tranquil landscape in the style of Ni Zan (1301-1374) of the Yuan dynasty (1277-1368), the depictions of the mountaintop, seemingly calcite, and the ground recall the Xinan school of the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and the early Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
