An ox rubs itself luxuriantly against a big tree, watched over by its cowherd. The bold composition is reminiscent of the Zhe school of painters, popular in the mid-Ming dynasty. The artist “Li Fu” is listed as being Korean in the Japanese artist directory Koga bikō; however, the red seal below the signature here is in fact one used by Chinese painters in the Ming court.
