This dish is thought to be Huanan three-color ware (Ch., huanan sancai) produced at kilns around Fujian Province, China, towards the end of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The pattern of lotus petals on the exterior was created using a mold and clearly exhibits the rich use of molding techniques characteristic of Huanan three-color ware. There are a number of extant Huanan three-color dishes but examples like this with lotus petals on the exterior are extremely rare.
