Inro with a Deer and Autumn Plants

Museum No.
HK89-1
秋草鹿蒔絵印籠 Image

A single deer is squeezed into the long and narrow face of this inro, which would have been worn suspended from a man’s belt. The other side has a design of autumn flowers. Deer, which cry plaintively in the fall, are a symbol of melancholy and longing for an absent love.
