Poppies

Museum No.
AK890

In the lower left corner of this screen is the seal "Inen," which was the trademark of the Tawaraya school established by Tawaraya Sôtatsu (n.d.). The seal was also used by other artists besides Sôtatsu himself. This work, on an eight-panel folding screen, is decorated with gold foil and depicts poppies, which bloom in summer. The gold foil covering the background probably represents the brilliant sunlight of a summer day.
