Plates with edges shaped like flower petals are called fuyô te, or "cotton follower plates," since they resemble the flower of that name. They began to be produced during the Wangli era of China's Ming dynasty (1368-1644), and became particularly popular in Europe. In Japan, Arita kilns produced fuyô te for export.
