Rōkechi is a technique of wax-resist dyeing, in which beeswax is applied to a stamp. The wax-treated areas resist the dyes leaving behind pattern. It is thought that the production of a rōkechi ceased with the abolition of the Chinese envoy system in the eighth century, because it was dependent on beeswax importation.
