Kyōkechi is a type of clamp-resist dyeing, in which long fabrics are folded and clamped with carved boards. The covered areas are not dyed, so the carved areas create a pattern. While later examples made with this technique usually have only two-colors, these textiles from the Shōsō-in Repository are multi-colored.
