Among tenmoku-style stoneware, those with oil spots are called yuteki tenmoku. There are two types; one was produced by the Jian kilns in Fujian Province and the other by kilns in northern China. This piece is the latter type. A similar work, designated an Important Cultural Property, is housed at the Fujita Museum of Art in Osaka.
