Maruyama Ôshin (1790-1838) was the grandson of Maruyama Ôkyô (1733-95) and the son of Kinoshita Ôju (1777-1815). Ôshin faithfully practiced the style of the Maruyama school and became its third generation head. His repertoire covers a wide range of themes, including landscape, figures, and flowers and birds. Although this set of paintings do not surpass the works of the master Ôkyô, they represent among the best of Ôshin’s works.
