Internal disturbances during the late Ming (1368-1644) through the early Qing (1644-1911) dynasties caused damage to and temporarily discontinued the porcelain production in China. As a result, the Dutch East India Company sought to move to Japan the production of porcelain made for export to Europe. "VOC" was the Dutch acronym and trademark for the East India Company.
